HOW TO MIGRATE

FROM SHOPIFY TO WOOCOMMERCE

WHY SHOULD YOU MIGRATE?

Shopify

Shopify is a great eCommerce platform, very user-friendly and collaborative. There’s a support team that helps out with all the struggles and difficulties that you face. There are hundreds of groups on social media that provide support on different levels and stages of your Shopify journey. Being on Shopify is like attending a big school where everyone’s learning and gives feedback.

Shopify is very straight forward and easy to handle. It is just enough to sign up and the party starts. The platform does SEO for you, speed insights remind of upcoming holidays to give discounts, teaches about Facebook Pixel and how to run ads, provides with hosting and domain (you should pay for it extra). The domain comes always with .com extension. The platform is full of apps you need to perform nicely, you need just to click and install. All of them checked and working properly.

So running a Shopify store is a great and smooth experience, apparently for people who do not have any previous background of using eCommerce platforms.

The biggest discomfort though comes from the payment terms. In order to enjoy having a hassle-free platform, one needs to pay for it. And regardless of the fact that there’s an opportunity to try it for free for 14 days you the user should choose a plan afterward and pay for it. That’s not the best scenario whenever you start creating from scratch and selling, apparently with no experience. It takes ages to learn eCommerce and not getting a profit immediately or never while learning. So basically Shopify’s hands-on experience is paid as you learn while doing it.

I highly recommend Shopify to anyone having some money to burn and is really searching for hands-on experience. But for the people who get exhausted by paying those plans with no ROI (return on investment), I would rather recommend to :

MIGRATE TO WOOCOMMERCE (WORDPRESS)

WooCommerce is an open-source, free platform and the only one expense (for a basic website) is domain and hosting. The platform develops every single day and there’s plenty of supportive forums and groups to gain knowledge from.

If you’d like to migrate you should be aware that this is not an easy task, apparently if you have never dealt before with WordPress and WooCommerce, but it is still doable and if you need help, please use the contact form of this website.

How to approach it?

MIGRATE TO WOOCOMMERCE FROM SHOPIFY! 5

Back up your website with an app (Shopify) or plugin (WooCommerce).

Hosting

– you need to purchase a hosting first.

Domain

If you do not want to change the domain you have to change the nameservers (DNS) to point to your hosting.

Migration

Use Cart2Cart plugin for this purpose but keep in mind that it is FREE for up to 10 products only. Getting over this limit starts at $69. It is really easy when you follow the steps on the wizard. The benefits of using this plugin according to their website are as follows:

    • “100% uptime for your current store – Keep selling during the migration
    • 24/7 live support  – Get phone, chat or ticket assistance at every step of your migration
    • Effortless 3-Step Migration  – No coding or database manipulations, simply follow the step-by-step setup in the Migration Wizard
    • Calculate your migration price upfront – The total migration cost depends on the amount of data you want to move to WooCommerce and the additional options you select. Use Cart2Cart Migration Estimator to calculate your Full Migration price before setting up the migration.
    • Really fast migration –Cart2Cart provides an unprecedented data transfer speed. For instance, the migration of 5,000 data entities will take around 1 hour.”

The only one difficulty you might face is to

Generate an API password From Shopify

Follow this order step by step and cautiously: Cart2Cart page – Admin Panel – Applications -Manage Private Applications – Create a new private application – Enter name – Allow Read and Write all parameters – Click Save – copy the password back on Cart2Cart wizard.

MIGRATE PRINT ON DEMAND PRODUCTS

Fortunately when you do Print on Demand and your apps such as Printify and Printful the migration is really straight forward. The only one thing you should be concerned about is set up a new website on WordPress and then installing the plugins there. The migration occurs by syncing through the website accounts. So, in your website accounts it will appear 2 similar stores (one on Shopify and second on WooCommerce), so what you need to do is to sync the products from the first to the second. There’s no need to use and additional plugin.
