WHAT MAKES A GREAT LEADER IN CRISIS? 19

“An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep.”
― Alexander the Great

If someone asks you What makes a good leader in difficult times? what would you answer? I have been just asked and my first thought was: Keep your cool as much as possible

But of course, that’s not all.

The good leader could be actually recognized the same as the soldiers in a real battle or challenge. Because, as far as you can assume, in good times, the leader is not even needed.

Look at the word ‘leader’. Where does it derive from? From the verb ‘lead’. So this is someone who is skilled enough to overcome own fears, to step ahead and lead the others to the exit of the tunnel.

Do you agree?

Good, but that’s not enough.

What qualities should the leader possess in order to contribute to achieving a victory and successor at least embracing the power and leaving a bad situation along with saving everyone else?

BUILDS TRUST

Reassure your employees and clients with your words, behavior, and actions that you are able to estimate the situation correctly and find a solution.

ASKS FOR ADVICE

Make sure you have got the opinions of all collective. Sometimes the janitors could solve a great business problem. Never underestimate people’s observations and experience, things they learn before and during working within the organization.

HAVE GOT EMPATHY AND COMPASSION

This is something you should consider on a daily basis. But don’t do this hypocritically as people would feel it. Remember that employees would forgive some lack of knowledge, but would never forgive cruelty or toxicity in a leader.

STAY CONFIDENT AND OPTIMISTIC (KEEP THEIR COOL)

Along with being assertive stay confident. Just simply reassure yourself that there would be a positive outcome and you and your team are working towards it.

KEEP SMILING

A nice and friendly smile would help not only you but everyone to keep their stress out. Of course, do not try to joke or laugh as they might think that if the situation is really serious, you lost your mind. 🙂

ASSESSES THE SITUATION CALMLY AND TAKES THE REQUIRED MEASURES

Think practically and with your head. Trust experts. Encourage them to give also non-standard or alternative methods.

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE, DOES IT NOW

You would like the crisis to be over now or to keep frying the beans forever?

PROACTIVELY SEEKS SOLUTION

Collect information, analyze it and bring a solution.

NEVER IS ON DEFENSE

Leaders never are defensive, they actively seek a positive outcome and do not hide behind their desks.

REASSESS AND REDUCES COSTS BUT MAKES SURE NONE SUFFERS GREATLY

Reassure that shrinking some expenses is only for the time being and set a period. After the crisis brings back this on track.

EXUDES SELF-CONFIDENCE AND MAKES EMPLOYEES BELIEVE THIS IS TEMPORARY

The crisis will pass in the blink of an eye, just be patient, ladies and gentlemen.

MAKES SURE THEIR CLIENTS ARE LOOKING AFTER AND NURTURED EVEN MORE THAN BEFORE

Make sure none is leaving Titanic, apparently loyal customers. Do whatever it takes to keep them.

TAKES CARE OF THEIR PEOPLE

They are your horsepower and the biggest asset to use in order to overcome the crisis.

DEPICTS AND VISUALISE AMAZING FUTURE AFTER THE STORM

Never forget to realize once the bad is over.

Remember, if you were a good leader before the crisis, you would remain a good leader during it and afterward.

Leadership is keeping the balance between being nice and at the same time being a  business person.
